Rebecca Rule

Rebecca Rule is a writer, humorist, storyteller, story gatherer, and host of Our Hometown on NHPBS. On that show, residents tell stories of what makes their town special. Such stories keep her ticking. She hasn’t visited every town in New Hampshire to tell and gather stories but she’s working on it. The author of fifteen books for children and adults, her latest are Who Loves Blueberries? (a picture book illustrated by Arpita Choudhury) and NH Trivia, both from Islandport Press.

Often sponsored by NH Humanities, she has been offering programs at town halls, libraries, schools, senior centers and other gathering spots for more than 30 years. Two of her most popular programs are That Reminds Me of a Story (based on her book That Reminds Me of a Funny Story) and Moved and Seconded: NH Town Meeting (based on her book of the same name.)

Backmatter offers some juicy facts about blueberries and the wildlife they support.

NH Trivia

Rebecca “Becky” Rule’s New Hampshire Trivia is a fascinating, educational, and entertaining collection of facts and stories that will test your knowledge and spark your curiosity to learn even more about this great state. New Hampshire may be a small state, but it has a rich history. Plus, Becky adds in her signature sense of humor to make this book of trivia fun and engaging. There’s something for everyone with 500 questions in such categories as History, Arts and Entertainment, Sports, Notables, Natural Wonders, Strange and Unexpected, and much more. A great gift for those who love New Hampshire, love history, or just love trivia.

Perhaps best of all, Becky Rule is the perfect author for a book that dives into the history, culture, and sometimes quirkiness of her home state. Becky hosted the NH Authors Series for ten years on New Hampshire PBS and now hosts the network’s Our Hometown series. She loves New Hampshire and has been telling stories about the state and performing in front of audiences for more than thirty years. She is also an author whose books include N is for New Hampshire and The Iciest Diciest Scariest Sled Ride Ever!, both children’s picture books, Headin’ for the Rhubarb: A New Hampshire Dictionary (well, kinda), Live Free and Eat Pie, and That Reminds Me of a Funny Story.

That Reminds Me of a Funny Story

That Reminds Me of a Funny Story, published by Hobblebush Press, is a memoir, storytelling how-to, and compendium of more than 500 stories–yankee humor—our regional tradition. Hobblebush has, sadly, gone out of the business of traditional publishing, but the book is available directly from me and in independent bookstores.

The Iciest Diciest Scariest Sled Ride Ever!

On a cold, icy winter day when “the world was ice and we were skaters without skates,” seven children set out on a sledding adventure that soon soars to epic proportions.

Lizzie and her friends convince Grampa Bud to let them use his custom-built runner sled — an old-fashioned travis sled built for speed. But first they have to get the long sled up the iciest, diciest, scariest hill ever!

Acclaimed New Hampshire storyteller Rebecca Rule infuses this story with her trademark wry sense of humor and authentic New England language, making it perfect for story times or one-on- one reading.

Jennifer Thermes’ vivid watercolors animate the winsome characters and joyous winter action, as the seven children slip, slide, crawl, and scramble their way up the icy slope to finally fly down the highest, mightiest, iciest sledding hill on Old Mountain Road. You’ll be holding on to your hats and scarves for this one!
